Function Signal generator reviews?
« on: December 21, 2015, 02:45:57 pm »
Is it just me or am I missing something??  been looking for a decent Function Signal Generator and I can not seem to find any reviews from Dave on them... looking at a few:

1) FY3224S  (cheap)
2) Siglent SDG1025
3) Rigol DG1022 (just because I have a Rigol DS1054Z)

Can you direct me here to look?  Are there any reviews on them?  Did a search here but didn't find an actual review.

I don't want to spend 100.00 and get a piece of garbage (rubbish as Dave would put it  ;D ) nor do I want to spend 500.00 and have something that I really don't need...

FYI, the advice I got for the oscilloscope was phenomenal...

Thanks Again

David

Searched and came across this question. I'm in the market for a function generator as well.

Dave recommended the Instek SFG-1003 in one of his videos.

Rigol DG1022 I got one used for 120$ (http://stores.ebay.com/TryC2/_i.html?_nkw=rigol&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4634)
Now it on the way to me. Yes it old but sinewave is sinewave so if it in good full working condition that will be a nice score.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Owon AG 1022? Looks like you can get one fairly reasonably priced second hand. Seems like it compares spec/quality to the Rigol DG1022. Agree?

The SDG2042X is one of the current forum favourites as clever chaps have found ways to improve it to SDG2122X but for $100 less I'm more and more liking SDG1032X as unlike most other AWG's they can do square waves to the same frequency as sine. Even SDG2042X can't do that.

There's threads on both in the forum. have a look.  ;)

Scrap the toys, get a real function generator - Siglent 1000X or 2000X
I drive a LEC (low el. consumption) BEV car. Smoke exhaust pipes - go to museum. In Finland quite all electric power is made using nuclear, wind, solar and water.

You didn't read this thread about the Feeltech FY3200s series:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/feeltech-fy3224s-24mhz-2-channel-dds-aw-function-signal-generator
Lots of good info and all that needs to be modified is a grounded AC input. I'm using my FY3200S a lot because it powers up quick and it is very straightforward to use. Even if you need more functionality later on it isn't a waste of money because a simple function generator is always handy to have.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

3) Rigol DG1022 (just because I have a Rigol DS1054Z)

I wouldn't get the DG1022 if I were you. It has some flaws that I and others have discovered, and which led Rigol (to their credit) offering me a deal to upgrade to the DG1032Z.

For one thing - it couldn't even measure frequency as accurately as the frequency counter built into the Rigol DMM I have - the DM3058E!

It also doesn't lock to an external 10 MHz source properly either ...  :(

You can read here -

Rigol DG1022 flaws

But yea - the DG1032Z is great.  :-+
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

I would suspect the Rigol 1022 would be an upgrade from what I'm currently using now ;)
